Congrats on Finishing the First Week of School
I just wanted to take a minute and congratulate all of the grade one students on completing their first week. It was a busy week, and I know it isn't always the easiest to get back into the routine of school, but you did it! I am looking forward to getting to know each of you better as the weeks go on. Enjoy a restful weekend! See you again on Monday!

Paint Shirts
Please send in an old shirt for your child to use as a paint shirt. This shirt will be left at school and used during art. Oversized shirts work best, but any old shirt will be greatly appreciated.
Home Connections
Just a reminder to respond to your students writing about this week. We want you to be involved in what goes on here at school, so we will be sending home weekly updates about what we are learning. These can be read, responded to, and returned on Monday.
Numbers and Letters
If you are looking for ways to practice at home, having your children write out the alphabet and numbers to twenty are great things to practice. Be sure to focus on the directionality of letters/numbers and proper formation.
Scholastic Orders
Just a reminder that every book you purchase through Scholastic helps us earn books and supplies for our classroom. We greatly appreciate any support you can grant us in this way. Purchasing books is also an excellent gift idea. Please note that if you wish your books to be kept a secret from your child, that a note needs to accompany your order form. All other orders will be sent home directly with your child.
Upcoming Scholastic orders are due on Oct. 7th.

Reading Logs
Your children have brought home reading logs in their envelopes today. We are having a reading challenge within our class, that I am sure your children would love to tell you more about. Students are encouraged to read at home and fill in the log. Logs should be returned with your child's envelope every Monday. These reading logs will be included as part of your students "homework" mark, so please ensure they are reading every night and being returned at the beginning of the week. Students will get to move their ladybug forward on our line for every minute they read. Prizes will be awarded when certain reading milestones are crossed.
Also, please reinforce the concept of picking "good fit" (at reading level) books, when selecting books for the reading logs.
Reminder:The log is there to record hours your child spends reading, not the time you spend reading to your child. Choral reading or having them repeat after you may be necessary in the early stages however.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I will be more than happy to address them.

Unfinished Work Policy
The unfinished work policy within our classroom is as follows: On Friday's students will be sent home with any work they were unable to finish in the allotted time or within our catch up period. I ask that you help your child complete this work over the weekend and return it complete on Mon. If a student is unsure of what they are to do on a given assignment, please simply return it to school with a note attached and we will address it together the next day. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy please feel free to contact me. It is my aim that this policy will help students better manage their class time, as well as provide a better range of completed work for assessment.
Educational Websites
I am going to try to add new educational websites that your children can use at home every couple of weeks, so please check this section often. It's a great way to get your student working on certain school subjects at home and having fun while doing it. By allowing them on these educational websites it will also help them learn the computer skills they need for our weekly computer period.
